Pilot

Also called a proof of concept or a PoC. The point of a pilot is to learn cheaply, and the trap is that it usually tests the easy half: can the model do the task, rather than can the organization let it. Most pilots that look successful die later, in review, when someone has to sign for it.

Why it matters

A pilot proves capability. Getting to production is a different question.
